Nestled beside the rich fishing waters of the Haughton River and in the shadow of Mt Surround is Education Queensland’s best kept secret in the north, Giru State School. The 100-odd students and staff who call the school home say the family atmosphere that pervades our school environs is what makes Giru State School special. Our school serves as the educational hub for the township of Giru and the fertile farms that surround the town. These farms are renowned for producing high quality sugar cane that is transported daily by rail to CSR’s Invicta Mill which overlooks the school’s back oval and provides employment for many in our community. Our four classroom teachers and support staff work united, side-by-side to meet the educational, sporting and social/emotional needs of our students. The hardworking, cooperative children of our school make coming to work here each day something which we all look forward to.
Our school has a proud history of academic, sporting and cultural achievement dating back to when our doors first opened in 1924. During the intervening 80+ years Giru State School has provided an environment that has nurtured many individuals into the productive members of society they have become. This is a task we pride ourselves on continuing as we encourage our students to ‘Strive for Success’ today and into the future.
Of course the task of educating our young people is not one we can carry out alone. At Giru State School we are fortunate to have supportive parents who work with us to create a cooperative partnership for the benefit of our students.
Finally, I trust that our site will give you a snapshot of our GREAT STUDENTS, GREAT STAFF, GREAT PARENTS and GREAT SCHOOL!! |
