Located half way between Townsville and Ayr in North Queensland, on the banks of the Haughton River lies the township of Giru.

Giru is home to many farms which supply sugar cane that feeds the Invicta Mill during the crushing season - gernerally from late May or early June through to Novemebr/December. The farms and mill are the major sources of employment in the area.
