Teaching and learning

Giru State School is currently organised into three class groupings:
·         Prep-1
·         2-3
·         4-6

Giru State School is implementing The Australian Curriculum in the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography through the Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C) whilst the Key Learning Areas of Technology, The Arts, Health and Physical Education (HPE) are addressed through the Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCARF).  Giru State School, along with all other State Schools in Queensland will progressively transition from the Queensland Curriculum to the Australian Curriculum as more Australian Curriculum subjects are finalised and released.

A specialist teacher provides curriculum instruction in Physical Education for all students.  Year 5 and 6 students also participate in Languages Other Than English (LOTE).  The LOTE at Giru State School is Japanese.  It is taught via web conference and is facilitated by teachers from the Charters Towers School of Distance Education.

Students receive an individualised and differentiated educational experience - one that we are very proud to offer.
