At Giru State School we believe that the school day does not begin at 9.00am and end at 3.00pm and that the school does not begin and end at the front gate. Therefore we engage students and the community with a range of extra-curricular activities.

Extra-curricular activities

Leadership

Incoming school leaders participate in the GRIP Leadership Program in Townsville at the beginning of the school year.

Swimming

Giru State School students are rightfully proud of the pool attached to the school which is administered by the P&C. The pool is available to the Giru community when not being used by the school. In Term 1 and Term 4, all students participate in swimming lessons on Thursdays and Fridays.

Under 8’s day

A fabulous fun-filled day for all children in Prep to Year 3, and including children from the Giru Day Care Centre.

Food garden

Students are responsible for our garden which is home to a rooster, 4 chickens, tomato plants, potato plants and a banana tree.
